X-Tactical

A first‑person tribute to X‑COM: UFO Defense — reimagined as an FPS.

This is an early prototype – core mechanics are there, polish comes next. I’m building this to see if the classic X‑COM formula works in first‑person, and I’m learning everything as I go.

  • This is a work in progress. A lot of art is placeholder, and things will break. But the core systems are here — and they’re getting better every week.

    • Dynamic Lighting: explosions and gunfire now light up the environment
    • Destructible Cover: blast holes in walls, knock down lampposts
    • Allied AI — 13 additional friendlies roam the map hunting aliens
    • Custom Loadouts — pick armor and weapons before deployment
    • Permadeath-ish — if you die, jump into the next soldier and keep fighting

  • Placeholder Art Everywhere: greyboxing, temp models, programmer art
  • Bugs Galore: weapons misbehave, enemies get confused, physics goes wild
  • Controller Recommended: built for Xbox controller; KB+M is janky

  • I love the original X‑COM, and I’ve always wondered: What if you could play it from the ground, in first-person, with chaos all around you?

    This project is my attempt to answer that question.
